What should a workout log actually track?

A useful workout log does not need every health metric. It needs enough information to answer a simple question next time: what did I do, and how did it go? Strength training usually needs exercise, sets, reps and load. Running often needs distance, time or pace. A CrossFit workout may need a score format such as For Time, AMRAP or EMOM, plus movements, time cap and Rx or scaled status.

This page is designed as a workout log template you can actually type into. There is no account and no requirement to move your training history into another fitness app.

The logger is intentionally separate from née itself. You can keep your workout program and tracking system in a spreadsheet, Notes, CSV or another tool. née is workout entertainment: it narrates the workout you already chose with stories, motivation, Stoic and philosophical thoughts, and your own music.

Workout log template for strength training

For lifting, the simplest useful structure is usually exercise → set → reps → load, with optional RPE and notes. The browser tool above lets you add exercises and duplicate sets quickly on a phone, switch between kilometres/kilograms and miles/pounds, then export each set as a row.

Date Workout Exercise Set Reps Weight RPE Note

CrossFit workout log: For Time, AMRAP, EMOM and Rx / scaled

CrossFit and functional-fitness workouts are harder to fit into a conventional tracker because the scoring changes from workout to workout. A For Time session needs a completion time or time-cap result. An AMRAP needs rounds plus additional reps. An EMOM may need completed minutes or reps. The CrossFit mode above changes the form to match those score types instead of forcing every WOD into the same spreadsheet columns.

The export keeps the WOD structure clear enough to paste into a spreadsheet or give to an AI model later for comparison and analysis.

How to analyse a workout log with ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or another LLM

You can give an LLM a workout CSV or pasted table and ask it to look for patterns. The important part is telling it what you want analysed and telling it not to invent missing data. The AI prompt builder above can focus on progress, consistency, recurring patterns or session comparisons.

If you are searching for an AI fitness tracker, ChatGPT workout tracker or AI workout analysis, this is the simpler route: keep the workout data yourself, then use the AI model you already have to analyse the exported log. You do not need to move your history into another tracking app just to ask questions about it.

For example, a strength-training analysis can look at load, reps, training volume and RPE over time. A consistency analysis can focus on frequency and gaps between sessions. A CrossFit analysis can compare repeated movements, benchmark scores, loads and WOD formats.

Workout log questions

Does this replace a fitness tracker app?

It can replace the basic logging part if all you need is a quick record of workouts. This page intentionally does not try to become a full fitness platform: there is no account, programming engine, wearable integration or cloud history.

Will my workouts be saved if I close the page?

The current draft is autosaved in local browser storage on this device. It is not a permanent backup. Clearing site data, using private browsing or changing devices can remove it, so export workouts you care about.

Why copy for Google Sheets instead of downloading only CSV?

The Sheets button copies tab-separated rows, so you can select a cell in Google Sheets and paste the workout directly into columns without importing a file.
